In appreciation of outgoing Adamson University (AdU) President Rev. Fr. Gregorio Banaga Jr.’s commitment to the school’s Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), a testimonial dinner was hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) on 9 September 2015.

DDG-OIC Gepty emphasized that this is the first testimonial that IPOPHL has organized to recognize people and institutions that are instrumental in continuing the success of our projects, particularly the ITSO project. We consider ITSO as a critical instrument that would show the public the real benefits and value of intellectual property” said Atty. Allan Gepty, IPOPHL OIC Director General.  “Hopefully in the years to come there will be more gatherings like this, recognizing all the people that have been instrumental in our advocacy”, he added.

Under Fr. Banaga’s leadership, the AdU ITSO was able to file 13 income-generating technologies under the Patent Protection Incentive Package (PPIP), place 3rd in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Korean Intellectual Property Office’s Innovation for Everyday Life competition, establish the university’s Technology Business Incubator as an addition to ITSO services, partner with private entities such as IdeaSpace and Smart Communication’s SWEEP for intellectual property (IP) services, and conduct IP trainings headed by their own ITSO staff. IP has also been integrated into their curriculum, requiring researches done by students to undergo patent search prior to submission.

Ms. Venus Quevedo –AdU Vice-President for Administration and ITSO Manager— considers Fr. Banaga as the strongest support mechanism at AdU ITSO. “There are a lot of admirable dimensions to Fr. Gregg [Banaga] that sets him clearly on path on what he sees as opportunities for AdU to soar high like our falcon. We are immensely proud that he chose to support ITSO immediately after we presented it in 2010.” she shared.
