Compact Corn Mill

Patent Number: PH-1-2015-000122

Patent Title: Compact Corn Mill

Description

The compact corn mill can sort, clean and mill white corn for food and feed. The Mill can produce corn grits that are more appealing as alternative staple food.

Technical Feature:

This technology offers higher milling recovery compared to current conventional corn mill processors. It has a minimum product recovery of 64% and a minimum degerminator efficiency of 80%, thus fully satisfying the minimum quality standard set by the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standard (PAES) for product recovery and degerminator efficiency.   It allows simultaneous operations (sorting, cleaning and milling for white corn) and is easy to operate and transport requiring a small working area.

Most importantly, it eliminates aflatoxin contamination in corn grits.  Its specifications are as follows:

Input Capacity – 250-300 kg/h
Main Product Recovery – 64.7 – 72.3%
Degermenator efficiency – 81.2 – 94%
Power consumption – 5.4 – 6.6 kWh
Labor requirement – 2 persons
Power source (single phase)
    Degermer: 5hp, electric motor
    Size reducer: 4hp, electric motor
    Grader: ½ hp, electric motor

Applications and Commercial Opportunities:

Poor quality of corn grits and lack of available corn mill in the countryside are cited as main causes why there’s a diminishing consumption of corn grits in the country. Even though there are efforts on the part of the local manufacturers to satisfy the milling requirements, their machines failed to meet the requirements set by the PAES.

The Compact Corn Mill addresses this problem as this was tested and proven to produce quality corn grits for food and feed.  It can also lower the cost of producing corn grits to a maximum of Php 1.40 per kilogram output as compared to current conventional processes of more than Php 2.00 per kilogram output.

This technology is available for licensing arrangement to interested manufacturers.
