FERMENTED LIQUID ACID WHEY SILAGE ADDITIVE

Patent Number: PH-1-2018-050158

Patent Title: FERMENTED LIQUID ACID WHEY SILAGE ADDITIVE

Description

The technology relates to a feed additive for silage making. This feed additive is composed of 10% Molasses and 90% Liquid Acid Whey which is a by-product of cottage cheese making, added with molasses and fermented for 20 days. This additive can be added as additive or enhancers of crop-by products such as corn and sugarcane and also to forage silages. The Fermented Liquid Acid Whey Silage Additive can be added after compacting the silage prior to sealing the silo or the silage bag. After 20-30 days of fermenting the crop by-products or forages, the silage can be opened and feed to goats and other ruminant species. This technology is a solution to the increasing amount of farm and processing waste being left behind after the production of food products. This can be added at the rate of 10% to 15% to corn silage while 15% to sugarcane silage.

Technical Feature:

Fermented Liquid Acid Whey is a composition of 10% molasses and 90% Liquid Acid Whey mixed and fermented for 20 days at room temperature (36-370c) in a dark room for 20 days. This is a feed additive especially for silage comprised of highly-fibrous materials.

Applications and Commercial Opportunities:

Fermented Liquid Acid Whey is easy to handle and used as silage additive. Since, the fermentation temperature is 36-37°C, it is easy to store. Given that, cottage cheese making and sugarcane is being practiced and produced in the Philippines and many other agricultural countries, the raw materials are easy to gather. In view of the fact that ruminants are feed a basal diet which is basically crop by-products or forages which are highly fibrous, initial degradation with the help of beneficial microorganisms from the Fermented Liquid Acid Whey added during silage making is an advantage. This can also be used as supplement to monogastric animals like poultry and swine to improve digestion and microflora of the intestine for better absorption of nutrients. This product gives attention to the overwhelming amount of farm waste or crop by-products while the animal industry is facing shortage of good quality feed stuffs or basal diets. This technology of making Fermented Liquid Acid Whey Silage Additive offers a good opportunity for the farmers to increase their income by selling their crop by-products, while, the manufacturers of cottage cheese by selling liquid acid whey as secondary products. The potential manufacturers or consumers of this product/technology are Animal nutritionists and Feed specialists.
