Modular Magnetic Wall Panel System

Patent Number: PH-2-2018-000837

Patent Title: Modular Magnetic Wall Panel System

Description

A wall panel unit that can be linked to other wall panel units of similar makes through magnetism. Each panel unit is free-standing and upright which allows single wall panel unit use. The use of multiple panels allows greater flexibility in modifying interior spaces of buildings as panels can be arranged linearly and perpendicularly. Also, the lightweight makes of each wall panel unit and light magnetic adhesion facilitate movability without the need for mechanical apparatus. On the other hand, the changeable make of the panel facing provides greater design flexibility to address thermal, acoustic, or lighting needs as needed or preferred by designers and users.

Innovative Features and Benefits:

Traditional wall systems in interior spaces are often made of glass, fiber cement board and metal furring assemblies, or wood and plywood sheet assemblies, aluminum and glass, fiberglass, and other similar assemblies that require rigid fastening to more permanent structural components of the building for greater stability. Fastening is commonly done by means of rivets, bolts, and other mechanisms. This system disallows building users to change wall configurations more flexibly, often requiring minor or major interior construction renovation works within spaces to accommodate any changes in the use of interior spaces. For offices with constantly changing manpower sizes, this incurs added costs to normal operations.

Newer technology allows for suspended walls that are movable via sliding tracks, wheel mechanisms, and similar makes. The problem with this technology is that the design is restrained to the tracks which are also fastened to more permanent structural components of the building. Changing spaces require the removal and refastening of tracks, which is a method that also requires added mechanical apparatus and installer expertise.

Therefore, there is a need for a more semi-permanent wall partition system that can be moved by building users in a manner similar to regular furniture treated as live structural loads, and free-standing element that can be moved by users by will and raw human strength.

The Modular Magnetic Wall Panel System allows to change wall/partition configuration with no mechanical apparatus needed. This technology also provides building users and designers greater flexibility in changing wall/partition panels as needed.

Applications:

The modular magnetic wall may be applied to the following but not limited to:

  • Office divider
  • Movable wall partition for a variety of buildings and spaces
  • Condominium unit partitions (residential or business use)
  • COVID-19 containment units

Business Development Opportunity:

With a growing number of industries investing in open plan and office space rentals, the technology offers a good investment to these businesses, particularly start-up businesses beginning to establish its respective office spaces. The technology sits on the balance of stability, adaptability, and movability which allows it to grow with these offices. It may also be utilized by condominium unit users. When made with the right materials, the technology can also be used as interim partitions for temporary spaces like divisions for containment facilities in COVID response units or quarantine spaces.
