Onion Seed Planting Apparatus

Patent Number: PH-1-2017-000189

Patent Title: Onion Seed Planting Apparatus

Description

The ten-row onion seeder eases direct seeding of onions with its efficient seed distribution mechanism which performs bed preparation and seed sowing in a single operation.  Seed sowing, therefore, is faster resulting in higher planting capacity and density and lower cost of production. This seeder can also be adjusted to sow seeds at a desired rate and row spacing.

This seeder can be operated by a single person and has a capacity of 0.5 ha/h.  It works as an attachment to a common hand tractor eliminating the drudgery of manual planting.

Application and Commercial Opportunities:

There are two ways to plant onion seeds through direct seeding – one is direct seeding by manual broadcasting while the other one is direct seeding using manual two-row seeder.

There are however issues in using these methods. Considering the high cost of seeds, the manual broadcasting method uses twice the quantity of seeds and therefore spending twice the cost of seeds compared to the transplanting method. On the other hand, the use of two-row seeder does not maximize the use of area thereby reducing the quantity of harvest per unit area.

The ten-row onion seeder addresses these issues by efficiently planting onion seeds while maximizing the use of land by maintaining higher plant population per unit area. This machine can increase productivity by efficient utilization of seeds and land area.

The technology is available for licensing to interested manufacturers.
